Additional information
The Somerset Carnivals are widely regarded as the largest illuminated processions in the UK and Europe, and here they are right on our doorstep! And guess what? The carnivals are free! That said, the carnival clubs work tirelessly to put on a good show and raise money for local charities, so please do donate as much as you can into their collections buckets and via the QR code on the front of the free brochure that Old Oaks will provide.
Measuring up to 50ft long, the carnival floats and walking entries are the spectacular results of months of hard work and dedication by the many Somerset carnival clubs. It’s impossible to put into words the magnificence of some of entries. The sheer size, sound and colours fill the streets from pavement to sky. Somerset Carnivals are definitely not just for kids!
On carnival day, most routes into Glastonbury town are closed off by 5pm (some roads earlier), so it’s important to get into town early if you want a parking space. Taxis are limited in number and always book up well in advance. Alternatively, you can book a return seat on our carnival coaches. This way, you can leave the car at Old Oaks, maybe have a glass of the local tipple with no worries about parking or traffic jams.
Pre-carnival dining at Abbey Tea Rooms will be available for Old Oaks guests again for 2026.
Dogs ARE permitted on the coach so long as they can sit on your lap. They’re also very welcome at the Abbey Tea Rooms, however, please consider the length of time you and your dog will be out and whether the carnival will be suitable for your four-legged friend.
See you at the carnival!
